Thursday, March 12, 2009
8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.
Hermantown Public Safety Building
5111 Maple Grove Road, Hermantown, MN 55811

Complete Streets are road systems that provide safe, convenient access for all users including motorists, bicyclists, transit users, and pedestrians of all ages and abilities. Led by national experts, including Michael Ronkin, a former Transportation Engineering Specialist for Oregon DOT, and Dom Nozzi, AICP, an urban planner and national speaker on street design and quality of life, this interactive workshop will guide participants in developing the elements of a successful complete streets policy. The goals of this workshop session are:

  • To bring together key, diverse stakeholders such as elected officials, engineers, policy makers, planners and community advocates to build a common understanding of how a complete streets policy can help the community achieve multiple transportation, health and community goals.

  • To briefly explore how well current policies and practices in your jurisdiction function toward creating and maintaining complete streets and compare them to effective complete streets policy elements.

  • To help you identify specific next steps to revise or develop an effective policy to create and maintain complete streets.

  • To introduce the four steps to effectively implementing a complete streets policy.
Co-sponsored by Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Minnesota and the Duluth-Superior Metropolitan Interstate Council (MIC), this interactive session will be free to you to attend. We strongly encourage your participation—if you cannot attend, please send a designee in your stead. But register soon, as spaces are limited.
